Youth sports in Cuba

Dream Central Cuba

Dream Central Cuba is all about sports. According to Reach Out Youth Solutions, more than half of the 11 million people in Cuba are below the age of 25. With such a young population of citizens, it’s easy to see why sports are a national past time. In an interview with MSNBC, Denis Horgan said, “The kids will come out of nowhere, they play on the streets and under the highways.  They use wooden sticks for bats, they have rolled up tape for a ball and they have only one glove.”

Because Cuba is one of the poorest nations in Latin America, families do not always have the resources for quality sporting equipment. Our trips to Cuba begin with a round-up of bats, balls, gloves, and other sporting gear that we collect through donations and/or sporting-goods drives from our local communities here in the States. The volunteers then pack the equipment all the way to Cuba where they organize games to attract kids, teens and adults alike. Sports are a fantastic way to build relationships, a solid foundation on which to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Through our Dream Central in Cuba we are able to maintain those relationships and offer a safe place where new believers can be encouraged and discipled in their walk with Christ.

Thank you for caring. Thank you for sharing.
